Latin calligraphy is associated with the history of writing, based on the Roman alphabet. Its practice, traditionally associated with the copying of manuscripts by Christian monks, was for them a form of prayer. Concentration and a sure grasp of gestures acquired through practice make writing an art. Over the course of time, influenced by culture, politics, trade and technical innovations, it has undergone constant evolution. New letters, spaces between words, punctuation, capitalization….
For those with a passion for beautiful letters, but also for those who want to learn about the various forms of Latin calligraphy: historical evocation, various instruments and supports, come and practice this remarkable art and savour its beauty! The workshop, located in the heart of the Ets Dumas parchment factory, offers a rare insight into the art of writing on parchment. The course is taught by Josiane Aubert-Dumas.
